⚠️ WARNING - This page contains discussions of self harm, child abuse, and substance abuse.

Achille Meursault was born to Mary and Richard Simon as Basil Simon in Calderbank, Scotland. He would later be nicknamed Orfeo by Jay Foster and go by this name following their death. Achille was a well known author of detective and horror fiction, with his work being popular in both English and French speaking countries. Achille had a reputation as a somewhat reclusive and eccentric artist, known for inviting both nobles and common people to his Glasgow mansion on the premise of playing a game where they would work together to solve a mystery. He was presumed dead at age 33 following the sudden burning of his estate, as none of the corpses found were identifiable.

Achille is a well built man standing at 5'11. He has wavy brown hair which he typically keeps brushed back. Some pieces occasionally fall in front of his face as he frequently runs his hands through his hair while thinking. He also has brown eyes. Achille has multiple scars on his hands and forearms. The oldest and most faded scars remain on his hands from the attack on the mansion when Dorothea was young. He also has scars in various states of healing on his forearms from suicide and self harm attempts.
Unlike Jay, Achille prefers to wear light colors, primarily white, light grey, and blue. He wears white gloves any time he is in public.

Achille’s childhood was largely unremarkable for a lower class child in the Edwardian era until age 11, when his mother fell sick. Being the couple’s only child, and a son at that, he was sent to work for the Meursaults with his uncle as a groundskeeper. He was treated well by Henri and Eleanor, as they pitied his position, and allowed him to act as a sort of babysitter or older brother figure to Dorothea during their childhoods. This allowed him to receive an education he would have not been able to receive otherwise. During this time, the Meursaults continued to send money to his father for Achille’s work.
Soon into his life with the Meursaults, his mother would succumb to her illness. Devastated by the loss and furious with his brother-in-law and son for “abandoning the family”, his father would attempt to rob the Meursault family home, killing Henri and Eleanor, and wounding Dorothea in the process. In Achille's attempts to protect Dorothea, who he viewed as a sister, he would sustain several injuries to his hands.
Unable to become the legal guardian of Dorothea and now without work, Achille would begin studying to become a doctor. During his time studying medicine, he would begin to take interest in chemical and drug synthesis. He would also begin writing serialized pulp stories for tabloids during this time. Eventually, he would become well-known enough for his writing that he dropped out of studying medicine, and became a full-time author.
After obtaining some wealth and a reputation for his eccentric behaviors, he would begin hosting his "games." Five years prior to their deaths, he would hire Jay Foster.

Ten years after the burning of the mansion and death of those within it, Achille would work as a private detective under the name Orfeo. The mental stress of the winter that his final murders occurred during and the strain of years of alcoholism and substance abuse would trigger a psychotic break resulting in dissociative retrograde amnesia. Unable to remember most of his life, Orfeo would assume Jay's nickname for him as it was the name someone used to refer to him. While his memories of what he had done are vague, he is not completely unaware of himself. Despite not clearly remembering his actions, Orfeo suffers from a guilty conscious. Additionally, his observation abilities did not decline at the onset of his amnesia.
Orfeo would eventually be approached by a tabloid publication commissioning him to research the remnants of what was once his home, and investigate whether or not it was truly an accidental burning, and if the alleged ghosts within it truly existed.

Achille enjoys playing the violin.

He is a skilled hunter from his years working as a game warden in his adolescence. He had a hunting dog named Macbeth. (A note from Zenith: Macbeth peacefully died from old age. I am not going to write about a dog dying in a fire, what the fuck.)

Despite working for tabloids throughout his early career, Achille finds his hobby of reading them very embarrassing.

His favorite type of alcohol is red wine.
