I’ve loved Pokemon for as long as I can remember. One of, maybe the first game I ever played, was Pokemon Leaf Green. I wasn’t old enough to really read yet, and I had to steal my brother’s Game Boy Advance SP to play. (He did not like this.) I’m not sure where I even got a copy of it. My brother didn’t play it, so someone must have bought it for him or lost it at our house and it eventually became a toy for me to sneak around until my brother finally got so mad he took his multiple versions of the Game Boy to his dad’s house, permanently barring me from running around mindlessly and never saving in LG.

When I grew up and eventually learned to read (shocking!) I was given a second hand copy of SoulSilver by my mom. It was the first game I ever beat without help, and by God did I put in the work to beat it. I didn’t know much about how Pokemon was actually meant to be played, so I just picked Pokemon I found cute and majorly overleveled my starter (a Cyndaquil), which accidentally underleveling and totally neglecting the rest of my party, making beating the Elite 4 a unique type of torture. For a long time, this would be my favorite game. Even now, it probably is my favorite Pokemon game, and I think it will always be special to me. Morty was one of the first video game characters I had a crush on, and I think this may have contributed to my love of blonds, lol.

As it may be easy to guess, ghost Pokemon are my favorite type. Mimikyu is my favorite all-around, but Gengar and Banette are close seconds. Even now, it’s a tradition for me to do a monotype ghost run after I beat a Pokemon game with a balanced team for the first time. Some games have had easier victories than others.

While I still love the mainline Pokemon games, I’ve found that I have yet to enjoy one released on the Switch. These days, I’m mostly replaying the older games, or doing casual battles on Showdown. (Gen 7 OU, my username is error422! Maybe we’ve played together before.) I’ll probably be using this page to gush about the series in general, because despite my Showdown playing habits, I actually barely understand the meta and it kind of pisses me off when people take it too seriously.
